While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

23 day of spring 511 AV, Sundown

It was raining. Of course it was raining, it's always raining! A tiny winged female trudged unhappily through the undergrowth, muttering curses and worse. Her brown cloak offered little protection so was thrown into her backpack angrily. She had fallen into countless mud puddles and ran into many wet branches. The sun was still out but slowly going downwards. But despite that there still was little to no light for the whole heavens were shrouded in grey. This Zith didn't dare take to the skies under fear of electrocution. Or worse!

Why was she even here? Honestly. She should be in an Inn somewhere; dry, warm, and full of beer. She was so soaked every movement was taxing on her. The light grey fur of her body was plastered down and slightly stunk like it always did when it became wet. You’re no better than a dog.

The forest around her was green with life and prosperity. Not much moved due to the unrelenting showers, but to her ears a slight rustling of squirrels and other creatures could be heard. The pitter patter of rain-drops against leaves was a steady metronome to which Llano Chyme found it hard not to sing to. She hummed a little rhyme the slaves taught her as a child and it gave her small comfort. Though it did little good. It was hard to put what she was feeling into words. Every once in a while she would find herself in this state. It usually came after a dream or a flashback of some-sort where she remembered her family. She always would leave her brother when this happened, she just hated upsetting him. Because what? You're scared of hurting his feelings. Grow up! You're a Zith! Thunder clashed in the distance accompanied by a flash of light. This is going to be an interesting night.

Miserable and feeling worthless, she trekked on. A large mud puddle appeared in front of her, feeling slick she dodged it flying over top of it with grace and skill. Chyme loved flying, it was her secret pleasure just to soar into the sky at night and scream at the top of her lungs. The small Zith hoped that she would soon find shelter, a cave or something for gods sake.

He was sitting on dry ground when the other creature approached. Trying to listen to the constant pit-pat of the rain, letting its noise soothe him, he had slowly slipped into a meditative state. When he opened his eyes, the annoyance caused by the terrible weather had faded. Instead the beauty of the rain pouring down and the puddles on the ground, water all around him and the cave-like landmark protecting him slowly seeped through and invaded his mind.

When he noticed motion, however, crimson eyes widened. A couple of seconds he focused on his breathing and relaxation, observing the creature in the rain from afar. It seemed to stay in the air a little too long as it hopped over a large puddle, and the sight was enough to nearly kick him out of his peaceful state of mind. And there was something attached to its back, not traveling equipment, but a part of its body. Eventually, he finished adding another layer to his sight, one of color and vibration. The power of Auristics told him what he had already anticipated: danger. Shades of crimson and brown encircled the creature, whispering of their annoyance. The colors told him it was a sentient being. A Zith?

Even before the realization trickled into consciousness, he stood, trembling with adrenaline and the sensation of djed in his veins. His long limbs and thin body were wrapped in black fabric, kept warm by a cloak, but not protected. Pale lips curled into disgust as he wished for an exemplar of the shell armor he had possessed in a former life. There was nothing to protect his fragile and pale Symenestra frame. Not in the present.

Following the creature’s path with his gaze, he slowly backed away, moving towards the shadows with long, fluid strides. His sandals made noises on the earth, but they were swallowed by the rain. Standing against the wall, backpack at his feet, he waited and observed. On the one hand, he was concerned for his safety, but on the other hand, curiosity nearly got the better of him. Never had he seen a Zith before. Licking his lips, he wondered what they tasted like.

OOCOMG! An Ethaefal! *swoons*
She struggled on, still absorbed in her pity-party. The thunder around her drowned out all noise and, admittedly, startled her a few times. She wasn't used to all this... NOISE. What, do you have some sort of mental instability now? Get over it princess. It completely knocked out her concentration and caused her head to throb. How she wished for a dry spot to curl up in a ball on and take a good rest.

That wish was soon granted when she stumbled upon the most beautiful cave she had ever seen. Small waterfalls rimmed the outside and poured to the entrance, creating a small stream which lead past her unshod feet. Ferns, wildflowers, and other plants. The back of the cave was incredibly dark. For a moment Chyme thought she saw movement, black eyes narrowing she crept on closer-- Only to trip on an upturned root. "What the hell.", she growled as caught herself. Despite being slightly acrobatic she was extraordinarily clumsy as times. Idiot

The motion she previously was to investigate was all but forgotten as she stepped into the cave. It was dry and surprisingly warm. Lightning lit the cave up as he slipped her pack off her shoulder and took her cloak out to dry. The pudgy Zith wrung out her long, dark hair on her head and arms and shook her body vigorously leaving the fine fur in spikes along her body. Stretching and yawning, she never noticed the slender form in the shadows watching her with hungry eyes.

Still his eyes utilized auristic vision, and his mind bathed in the sensation of colors and shapes. The light would blind any unskilled individual, but he appreciated and cherished it. Seeing djed auras was the only constant in this chaotic world, the root he clung to, so he wouldn’t drown. Leth, where are you?

The winged creature came nearer and detected the cave. Surprise flickered through her aura and then she exploded into a whirlwind of yellow and grassy greens. He saw the change in her mind as if reading a map. Despite the dangerous situation he had maneuvered himself into, he enjoyed watching her. Her emotions appeared as transitory as the rain. While adrenaline rushed through his veins, his mind was ripe with possibilities and chances. He could try to climb and escape from the cave and her savage fangs, but that would be boring, wouldn’t it? A quick look towards the dark sky told him... nothing. However, his skin itched enough to confirm that the sun would go down at any moment. And then he wouldn’t be able to climb walls or use the poison in his fangs anymore. Possibilities wouldn’t make his decisions though.

For the time being, he’d continue to watch. The Zith didn’t show any signs of aggression, so she probably wasn’t hungry enough to try Symenestra meat... or Ethaefal. When she shook herself to get rid of the water, he caught sight of the fur. Predators they were, those of her race, and he was intrigued by the differences between him and her. Perhaps he could... No. After all, her aura still featured remnants of crimson red. His fingers trembled, causing the black nails to vibrate in the shadow.

Chyme sat in the darkness listening to the dying storm. It's fury was dissapating at a slow pace. The small waterfalls echoes throughtout the cave and combined with the rain outside it created a tranquil music. The soothing melody brought her back to better days, ones with her family. She began to cry. All those years spent with humans made you soft, weak. A disgrace to your race. How she longed to be with him. Why did she have to come to a peaceful place? The air practically reeked of him. The Zith put her clawed hands in her hair as she cried out in pain. Unable to stay up right she crumpled into a ball, motionless but for a few stray sobs that sent ripples through her tiny, wet body. Get over it. You killed him. Great way to show your love. She bared her teeth, 'That voice.' How she loathed it.

Minutes crept by and soon she was back in a sitting postion. Her eyes blankly scanned the area. Not exactly a cave, but wholly beautiful. It reminded her of her childhood. Her residence then reeked of fear and feces made terribley pungent by the stagnant air. 'This would be a suitable house,' she mused, 'prehaps when I return Tempest might want a look.' It was obviously well traversed as the paths leading in and out showed. Old firepits and piles of animal bones were laid in various places adding to the indication. The thought of a warm, fire-cooked meal set her stomach growling. Surley there would be prey?

Preditiory mature taking hold, Chyme prowled the Seat with her eyes. A large mound was postioned in it center. On top of the mound sat broken limestone and lush vegitation. It was ideal for small game to hide in. Far off thunder boomed, reminding her of the storm. 'If only this rain would end...'

Hunger won over her contempt for the rain. "Why the hell not? I'm already soaked to the bone", she muttered. Rubbing the remnants of the tears from her eyes she struggled to ehr feet. Lighting once more lit up the cave, illumintaing a spidery figure perched in a corner. Thunder crashed around her, she froze. Was her hunger making her see things? No, idiot. Before you had a breakdown you spotted something. Remember? 'Oh yeah.' wings splayed and claws at ready she was prepared for whatever she would find in the dark. Mhhh. Hopefully a child. How long has it been since we've tasted that?

Plague

OOCHey, since this is where I decided to have Plague set up his "territory." I figured it would be interesting to jump into the thread. Hope that's all right with both of you. :)

This night was a time of fury, the sky itself raged around and gave a sense of chaotic joy to Plague. He had spent the night flying in the wind and rain, it was thrilling. The sense that he was able to battle against the very elements of the sky gave him a heart of triumph and pride. He was a Zith, a warrior of the night sky.

He had eventually managed to relocate his territory and his camp, hopefully Neek had already returned with something good to eat. But the smaller Zith more than likely had been grounded by the powerful winds. Winds that had even managed to give Plague a run for his money. As he came closer to the camp, Plague saw intruders in "his" cave. In reaction he slowed the beating of his wings, if this was a party of knights he would let them be. However if it were something lesser, they would understand the strength of the Zith before tonight had come to fruition.

Landing softly behind a bush, Plauge was hidden by the shadow and the rain. However with the benefit of his nocturnal vision he could clearly see the two figures, the first was a spidery figure who seemed frail and weak. The second was a small zith woman, who seemed to be hunting around for something.

This was nothing that a full grown Zith could not come against, or so thought Plague. So he flew gently into the cave and let out a slow snarl. "What do you want in the territory of Plague?"

Thoughts raced through his mind as he observed the Zith. She seemed to be getting comfortable, waiting for the rain to stop. All his appreciation for the beauty of the storm had disappeared, now he only hoped for the conditions to change so it was possible to escape. Of course, he would love to make a meal out of her, but obviously she had all the advantages on her side: wings, the better position. Everything he could offer was poison and the ability to climb walls. Until Syna sank and Leth rose behind the thick clouds.

When the woman’s aura vibrated with ice blue sadness, he watched in surprise. Zith were hunters, cruel killers and feral at heart, so why did she cry? He let the question linger in his mind for a while before letting go. There was darkness in her aura, probably something she had done that made her sad, yet he couldn’t tell for sure. The details escaped his eyes and the colors started to blind him.

Suddenly another color appeared. It was crimson red tinged with pink sparks. Hunger. The Symenestra immediately realized what that meant. The colors bleached into a world of black and white as he abandoned his auristic vision. At the same time lightning illuminated the cave and she turned around. Her eyes stared into his.

There was no sense in hiding anymore. So he stepped forward, wrapped in his cloak and with wet black hair framing sharp features. His skin was pale as ash. Long nails still trembled, so he hid them in the sleeves’ fabric. The opponent would not see his weakness. The adrenaline from djed usage was gone and had left nothing but a metallic taste in his mouth and the trembling. He only took a few steps into the Zith’s direction and then stopped. “You do not want to poison yourself”, he remarked and bared his teeth in a fanged smile. She didn’t need to know that he’d lose his only protection in a couple of chimes.

Just then, another Zith appeared. Ianus noticed his displeasure even without dipping into Auristics. The situation was obviously getting more dangerous than he preferred. With only the female, he would probably have managed to talk her into leaving him alone, but he saw no chance with a male that appeared large and savage. “I did not know... I will leave your territory at once.” Frozen in place like prey hypnotized by the predator’s stare... He didn’t like it. The shadows whispered to him, the djed in his veins sang, but he didn’t use any of it. His body was stiff and his mind a mess.

“You do not want to poison yourself”, said the man as he exposed his fangs. She spat at him, “Pleez.” He was rather interesting looking, though much too skinny. Red eyes? She hadn’t seen any of those since her colony days. What was this creature? Before her question could be answered a flutter of wings and the sound of landing interrupted her thoughts. “What do you want in the territory of Plague?” The voice was Zith, commanding and powerful. Llano turned to face him, for a split second she mistook him for her brother. But he was much, much larger.

The symnestra sputtered a reply, obviously fear stricken. ‘Coward’, she thought as a smile playing at her lips revealing her own canines. Not to say she wasn’t scared. A huge male Zith was nothing to scoff at. Not to mention she reckoned that if it came to it she would be in a pretty tough fight if they both attacked her. Best to bluff it, huh?

“I was doing no harm in your territory,” She spoke in their native tongue. “I see no reason for your…”, she paused, “unwelcome.” Her dark eyes looked into his and she sent a prayer to Leth he couldn’t see the fear that shook her.

He didn’t move when the female Zith responded. In fact he was watching the scene, clinging to the wall, while at the same time working out an emergency plan. Sorting his thoughts, sorting the colors burning in his eyes. The fall of the sun, the arrival of dawn and, eventually, night traveled through his body as if he was part of the infinite sky itself. But he was so much more than that... had been.

Climbing higher, sticking the hooks on his skin to the stone, he constantly watched the two Zith on the ground. They were shrinking, of course, and it calmed his senses. The colors, vivid reds and piercing blues, paled in comparison to the change inside his body that came nearer and nearer. His moves were smooth and swift. Tanroa provided him with a race that was completely novel to him: His lord ahead of him, the presence of two winged predators lingering underneath.

Finally his hand touched the grass on the other side, so to speak, while his thin body still hung almost upside-down on the wall. The weight was pulling him down, but once he felt the green and the freshness under his skin, he slipped over the edge and sat down. At the edge of his vision a blob of brown and yellow popped up. Firefly, his Gildling mare, was grazing a few feet away.

Peering over the edge, just enough for his eyes to perceive the two Zith, he watched what they were doing. Apparently they lost interest in him, a lucky chance. Almost at the same time, Leth appeared at the horizon and covered the Ethaefal in his opalescent shine. No Symenestra, no more, for his body distorted, grew and transformed.
