Pix was watching them.... watching them dance, talk, and have fun. She was working on building up curage to go down and speak when a ghost walked in. Well... that made her have more curage. If a ghost was there they were very bave... or he crashed the party... but that didn't matter. She wanted so badly to go down there and for everything to look normal. Then another pycon showed up. WAS EVERYONE INVITED BUT HER??!! She didnt want to startle them... so she flew down in the forest next to them. As she landed, she stepped on a twig. SNAP!! Oh no. She hoped they didnt hear. She jerked her head to see if they were looking. Then she stumbled and fell into a pile of dead leaves. She could hear all the leaves crushing noisely. Now they heard her for sure. The woods were 15 yards from them... at the most. This was bad. If they saw her, it would look like a sneak attack.
She heard footsteps coming closer and closer as she braced herself for the worst...

“Why thank you,” Sayana replied to Nivel’s compliment to her outfit and gave a twirl of her skirts. In fact, she was extra pleased by the comment due to the gift she had chosen for the little pycon. Just yesterday she had been at the Elegant Weave shopping for her wedding dress, and she had asked if they might be able to make a smaller dress, that might fit a small doll or pycon in this case. She picked out some beautiful emerald green fabric that shimmered in the light as well as some lace trim and cute little bells that would jingle wherever Nivel went. Most importantly, Sayana had stressed for the dress to be completed in a day so that she could pick it up for Nivel’s birthday.

As the dancer started fishing in one of the saddle bags to get the emerald green garment, she was distracted by Nivel’s accusational outburst directed at a new arrival. Sayana looked up curiously and was met by the oddly familiar ethereal form of a ghost. When he spoke quite directly towards her, she nodded slowly and a slight smile crossed her lips.

“Yes we have met, Alex,” she replied. “And it seems we have indeed met again in better circumstances.” Her initially cautious expression melted some more as Nivel excitedly welcomed the ghost and Sayana quite full heartedly smiled back. She was not one to hold meaningless grudges especially since it had been her kelvic companions who had been far more afraid of this ghost than she had been herself.

The moment the woman named Dove mentioned the dolls Nivel had made, and in particular when she pointed out the Eypharian doll, Sayana gleefully went over to it making sure to keep a hand on her horse’s reins. It was positively adorable. She picked it up with her high hands and looked at it. All beautifully sewn together, six arms and all, and even a pretty outfit.

“It’s marvelous Nivel! I’m impressed.” Sayana exclaimed as she spun the little doll in a twirl. “And look, little Sayana has a present for you.” The Eypharian slipped out one of her low hands that she had been hiding behind her back and produced the brilliant green dress. She placed it in the hands of the doll and presented the gift to the pycon. She waggled it to make the little bells jingle and handed it to Nivel.

“I hope it fits,” she added with a smile but wasn’t too concerned. Pycons seemed to have a way of fitting into whatever they liked. By then she spotted Ball who was playing amongst the other pycon sized dolls. How had she have missed him? Regardless, she gave a wave to the familiar pycon and plopped herself down on the quilt. In answer to his implied question Sayana piped up, “It’s Nivel’s birthday of course. And I think a picnic was a marvelous idea.”

“Have you got any food?” She asked, this time directing her question towards Sera Grey since she saw Nivel’s pile of clay. She was soon hunting for sandwiches and once she had sat back down her horse bumped its nose up against her face. “Not to worry, you can eat the grass,” she muttered to her mount as she pet its nose and face while motioning to the grasses of the field.

Nivel invited him to join them, he slowly sat down cross-legged when he noticed a woman dressed in a knights garb. She looked at him with distain, he winked at her. Just then he noticed that he was surrounded by dolls, one strangely resembled the six armed woman, Sayana, just then the human, Dove, showed the doll to Sayana. Who pulled out a magnificent green dress. He chuckled it was tiny. He noticed everyone was uncomfortable around him, so concentrated on his soulmist and materiallised, while he was still flickering, he still looked weird but atleast he fit in.

"So Nivel how old are you?" He asked curiously, everyone seemed to be eating so he tried to start conversation. He felt very awkward just sat there. Suddenly he couldn't keep the illusion any longer and once again became transparent.

“Oh, good to hear dear” Sera Grey replied “I am no stranger to bruising, just do your best to be careful from now on” The knight tried her best to relate to the girl and make her feel relaxed since she seemed a little uncomfortable. Sera grey was pretty used to people feeling uneasy in her presence so it was common for her to have to put acquaintances at ease.

“How did you get that scar” The knight asked without really thinking “If you do not mind my asking” Grey quickly added upon realizing her error, The patron knight just kept making social error after social error.

“Oh, thats interesting” Nivel replied with a simple nod of her head “I know a bit about plants but I’ve never heard of Muck spreading. I’ve actually never really thought of what plants eat, I just thought they were like rocks since they don’t really seem to move around. I know weeds are supposed to be bad, so is weeding when you combat the evil weeds that mean to do harm the helpful plants? If it is, then it’s like your like a knight of the fields.” The pycon fluttered her ears happily and preformed another twirl at her statement.

“You’re welcome” Nivel politely responded to Sayana as she watched the dancer better show of her dress with a spin. While the pycon waited for her many armed friend to get situated and the ghost to join the group, Ball unexpectedly entered the scene. Nivel was startled by his stealthy arrival even more than she had been by the ghost, but was none the less ecstatic by his arrival.
“Ah..Oh Ball! you came!” Nivel cheered and clapped her hands with joy “I didn’t want to bother anyone so I didn’t invite anyone, so I just made plushy versions of you instead.”
“I tried to tell her that you must invite guests ether in person or with a letter and give them proper information so that they may attend but she failed to listen to my-“Sera Grey explained but was quickly interrupted by Nivel. “My way is more fun” Sera grey took a deep breath and then went silent, she was clearly afraid to say something she would regret but took the time to introduce herself to the one eyed pycon.
Nivel noticed Ball looking at his stuffed self “That’s your stand in, do you like him I tried to capture your likeness but it’s pretty hard.” She pointed to the two plushies next to him “That’s Garland and Arch, you three were having a fight earlier so I split you from the group.”

Sayana finally joined the group after a brief and slightly tense filled interaction with the ghost. Which was quickly forgotten when Dove pointed out Sayana’s plush, which got a very positive review from it’s living inspiration. Before Nivel could thank Sayana for her feeback, the multi armed dancer revealed she had a surprise up her sleeve. It was a stunning dress in emerald green which was Nivel’s favourite colour and it even had pretty lace trim and even some tiny bells. Nivel was rendered speechless for a moment and was only able to shake and rapidly flap her wings in joy and fascination as she looked the dress over.
“I looove it!” Nivel almost screamed as she finally vocalized her pleasure with the dress. She took no time in slipping it on and did a jolly skip around the blanket with her bell chiming pleasantly with each nimble jump.

Nivel completely forgot to answer one of balls questions but luckily Sayana answered for her while she pranced around in her new present.
“Oh yah it’s not a mage thing, it’s something the tall folk do to celebrate the time they were born. Have you ever celebrated your date of birth Ball?” The younger but worldlier pycon probably had since he had more time with other races than she had but she couldn’t help wondering if he had bothered.

At the mention of food Sera Grey reached for her basket, which was located behind her. “Oh Where is my head to day” She sighed and shook her head in embarrassment “I brought several fresh cucumber sandwiches and a jar of pickles” she paused before adding “very sorry I was not expecting much guests so the selection is slim” She hesitantly looked at the one ghost amongst the group”-and no soulmist…” Sera Grey said flatly and hoped the spectre would take the hint.
She grabbed the sandwich she had careless left on her lap and began to eat it again as she waited for the others to help themselves.

Nivel noticed the ghosts materialization trick and stopped in her tracks.
“Oh neat, it’s like you came back to life” The pycon commented in a friendly manner, unlike her patron. “How do you do that little trick?” Nivel was almost jealous at this ghosts mysterious way of playing with his visibility, it truly mystified her.
“oh, I’m 4 years old, but there was a full season when I couldn’t even do anything so I don’t know if that really counts.” Nivel was referring to her time as a motionless sphere, it was the most boring time in her life so it didn’t seem fair to include it, but she was ready to wait until fall to celebrate her birthday.
“Maybe I should have another party in the fall to celebrate the day started to take shape.”

[Location: Syliran Fields] Picnic Party

Postby Dove Brown on September 6th, 2015, 12:31 pm

Dove inched back a bit to make more space around the picnic for Sayana and the ghost, and then froze again as another clay person - a pycon, she reminded herself - popped up out of nowhere. Nivel greeted him enthusiastically as Ball. He seemed to guess she was from the outpost and she nodded quickly as his fists clenched. "Yes. Yes, I am. I'm one of the farm workers. How did you know? Are you part of the garrison there?" She hoped that her being from Mithryn instead of Syliras wasn't going to be a problem.

Sayana seemed to like the doll-version of her, which was more than Ball did. Dove jumped a little at Nivel's shriek of delight over her new dress, and gripped her knees tightly with her hands, even as she smiled at the pycon's jingling antics. A shrewd observer might notice the tension in her shoulders and back increase as she felt more and more like an intruder among these rich and knightly people who all seemed to know each other. She looked at the sandwiches, but didn't immediately reach for one. She'd take one after everyone else was fed, if there were any left.

At Sara Grey's admonishment to be more careful, Dove's cheeks reddened, making the scar on her jaw stand out even more. "I didn't mean to fall off the wall in the first place," she muttered, before she could stop herself. "I was only looking for rabbit tracks. There's a trail on the other side." She jerked her head toward the four-foot stone wall behind her. At the knight's other question, she went pale again as the memories rushed back. "Someone came at me with a knife," she said flatly. "I- I'd rather not talk about it." Not here. Not in this company.

She turned quickly to the cross-legged ghost as he turned first almost solid and then translucent again and said, "I don't think I caught your name." Then to Sayana as she told the horse to eat grass. "Please, just not the crops. There's plenty of grass though." She waved at the strip of grass bordering the field, made for access and travel - and clearly picnics as well.

"Weeds are plants that grow where you don't want them to, and take the food from the plants you do want there. Weeding is taking the weeds away." She looked round and spotted a patch of red clover in the grass. She picked one, twirling it absently in her fingers to shake out any insects before she sucked on the sweet nectar. "I don't know what being a knight is like. I only usually see the patrols in the fields. They're busy and so am I, so - we don't talk much." She took a deeper breath, trying to keep a friendly appearance and looked round. "How do you like to spend your days?"
Very busy at work. May not be around much for a while.

Sayana grinned as the little pycon skipped around in the dress. She was very pleased with how it looked on Nivel and seemed to match the little sparkle in the squire’s clay. When Sera Grey answered her question about the food, Sayana more than happily tucked into the cucumber sandwiches. They were rather bland but still better than most of her own cooking. She chomped happily at one and grabbed another two of the fancy half-sized sandwiches.

“Der good,” she said between bites and emphasized it with a large nod. “Here, have one,” she added as she grabbed a fourth and offered it to Dove. The poor farm girl seemed horribly shy and almost reminded her of Orin. Yet she seemed very protective of the crops. Sayana glanced back to make sure her horse hadn’t strayed too far to nibble at other things. It seemed to be enjoying the clovers and flowers.

“Weeding… I did that once. Don’t think I’ll do it again. I’d rather be dancing, or riding.” The Eypharian finished off her second sandwich and got to her feet. “Speaking of, think I could do them both at once?” She grinned at her own challenge and for a moment paused to contemplate how she might accomplish such. But by the next tick she stretched her leg high into the stirrup and mounted up with a swing of her other leg. Still holding a sandwich in her high hand she grasped the reins with her mids and held the saddle horn with her lows. With a nudge of her knees she encouraged the horse into a walk around the picnic area as she kept it turning sharply with the reins.

“Look look!” She exclaimed as steadily began to rise in her stirrups till her legs were straight. It was quite the challenge and she really had to use her leg muscles to keep her legs firm and straight underneath her. Not to mention the balancing. Her horse was kind enough to keep up the walk but even with her low hands touching the saddle horn for support it was hard to maintain the position for very long. With a slight thump she landed back in her saddle and reined in the horse.

“I’m not sure if I could dance yet,” the Eypharian said with a laugh. Truthfully the insides of her legs were killing her from the strain of that short walk. “Anyone want to join me for a little ride? Ball or Nivel? Or even you, Dove was it?” Sayana added as she gestured to the farm girl. “Do you ride? I’m sure I could squeeze you in front of me.”

Sera Grey was right to think she had treaded onto thin ice and was quick to count her losses and retreat form her line of questioning with Dove. “Oh very sorry” The knight showed her regret mostly in her hand motions which some how remained poised while still being frantic. “No need to go into details we all have things we would rather not share…” Sera Grey trailed off, most likely thinking of all the painful secrets she held on to. Only she would know just how much was really hidden away but as a known practitioner of magic who regularly concealed her face, it was sure to be a great number.

“I do hope you solve your rabbit problem” The knight wanted to change the subject to something more pleasant but wasn’t doing it very gracefully “that sounds dreadful.” She seemed like her attention was drawn elsewhere but it didn’t seem like it was because of anything in her surroundings.

“Oh rabbits!” Nivel exclaimed in mid dance. “I love rabbits!” She stopped dancing and started to delve deeper into the subject “I helped save some rabbits with the help of my squirrel friend Archailst, can you believe some one would cage an such an innocent creature for no reason?”She punched her hand in sudden aggression. “Me and Arch were going to throw it into a geyser but we ended up just hiding it from the criminals that would hurt a poor fuffy bunny” She stopped her short triad and looked back at Dove “I’m glad we have noble crusaders like you to look out for the small animals of the world”

“Oh yes farmers love rabbits” Sera Grey shook herself out of her haze to prevent a possible argument “It was without a single doubt that the bandits made those cages, not farmers” She nodded to Dove and hoped the farm girl would play along.

“Since you’re a champion of justice like me I will teach you what it means to be a knight” Nivel held her hands behind her back and paced back and forth in mimicry of a stern instructor. “A knight keeps the peace and order, she does this by helping the innocent and thwarting evil where ever it spawns. A good knight should be embody compassion, loyalty and fairness while also being a strong and fierce warrior on the battle field.” There was a great deal of conviction in her words and body gestures. It was clear that she felt very strongly about living up to these ideals, even if her usual antics contrasted this.

“Why thank you” Sera Grey replied pleasantly to Sayana’s complement. The knight was never very good at cooking so she just gathered some supplies from the market the night before and threw together some simple sandwiches.

Nivel showed her immediate interest in Sayana’s stunt by jumping up and down chanting “do it” in rapid succession. The pycon loved to see people preform tricks but as soon as her mind wondered if she could preform the trick herself she realized she no longer had a mount. She became instantly wistful and progressively more sad as she thought about her mount. She didn’t show it to the rest of the world and stewed silently in her own pain. Ball would probably be the only one to notice the subtle hints that things were wrong. Nivel hadn’t even watched her friends trick and when Sayana asked if she wanted to ride, the pycon went silent for a moment. Everyone else had made their response when Nivel finally let out a casual “sure” as her reply. She didn’t sound sad but didn’t really sound particularly happy ether.

She accepted the sandwich from Sayana and took a bite as she watched the riding display, feeling her teeth crunch through the cucumber. At Sayana's question, she shook her head and swallowed hastily. "No, I don't ride. The horses used in the fields are big," she held out her arms at full stretch to indicate, still holding half a sandwich. "They're trained to pull things - carts, ploughs. I think you could stand on one's back more easily than ride one." She recalled the sandwich and finished it off with neat, economical bites.

As Nivel suddenly started talking about rabbits and how wonderful they were and how horrid it was to cage them up - and Sera Grey nodded and agreed that farmers loved rabbits, Dove tried to rein in her confusion. She was sure the knight wanted something from her, but she couldn't work out what the nod in her direction meant. The twin impulses to tell knights the truth and to never argue or attract unwanted attention fought in her. All she could do was keep her mouth shut. Anything she said would be wrong for one side or the other. Nivel was talking enough for two though, as she lectured about what it meant to be a knight. She was clearly proud of it, and enthusiastic. Dove bit her lip as she tried to hold back the instinctive response to point out that just because the knights' 'protection' caused less damage, didn't mean there wasn't people hurt - or dead. She folded her hands one over the other. "Rabbit is very nice," she agreed weakly, thinking of delicious rabbit pie and rabbit stew. Rabbits were very nice - to eat. Better that than eating the crops and leaving the place to go hungry on less food. Help the innocent crops and the people that depended on them for food. Take out the destructive - she couldn't call them evil - rabbits. "I suppose it fits..." she said slowly as Nivel claimed that Dove was a knight of the fields.

"I once tried living in Syliras like knights do," she offered, "but I missed the sky and the open space too much." As Nivel accepted Sayana's offer, Dove straightened, easing up onto feet that were half numb from being sat on. Pins and needles prickled fiercely and she bit her lip again. To cover the moment, she asked, "Do you want a lift up?"

Rabbits. They were cute little things but also fun to chase and catch. She was about to speak up and say that it surprised her how much blood came out when she cut a rabbit’s neck, but then she thought better of it. Nivel seemed rather attached to the hopping little creatures and Sayana didn’t want to ruin the pycon’s special day. As a matter of fact, maybe Nivel simply liked rabbits because they were so similar to herself in many ways. Cute, small, bouncy, and probably prone to trouble.

Sayana wasn’t too surprised when Dove declined the offer to ride. She seemed like more of the reserved sort. But even Nivel didn’t give an exuberant ‘yes’ to the ride. The Eypharian gave a quick look around wondering if it was something about choosing a horse over the sweet little dog she often rode. It didn’t look like Patcha was around. Sayana would have happily held the dog in her arms to ride with all of them.

When Dove offered to give Nivel a lift, Sayana waited with her arms out stretched to take Nivel from the girl. “Come on Nivel! It’ll be fun!” She encouraged. Once the pycon was up, Sayana made sure she was secure, or better yet raised high to have an even better view, and then the Eypharian nudged her horse into a walk. With a kick of her heels they moved into a trot and bounced gently with the horse’s gait.

“See? Isn’t it fun up here? Next thing you know you’ll be riding an eagle, or a giant eagle!” Sayana beamed brightly and began leading the horse into little figure eights around the picnic area. She pulled at one rein and trotted, then pulled at the other rein to loop back and trot some more.

“Happy happy birthday, Nivel Nivel Nivel. Happy happy birthday…” Sayana paused as she tried to think of something that rhymed with Nivel. Then her face brightened. “Happy happy birthday, let’s do a little swivel!” It was more of a chant than anything else and at the end she did a quarter turn to the left by swinging her leg over in the saddle. She repeated it again trying to add a tune to it and did another turn so she was riding backwards.

At last she hopped down and took the reins so that the horse wouldn’t run away. “It’s been a marvelous picnic Nivel,” she said and would happily assist the squire in wherever she seemed to want to go, be it the ground, the horse or to stay in the Eypharians hands.
